Sarah C. (Sally) Honenberger

Sarah C. (Sally) Honenberger: A transplanted Northerner, Sally writes fiction about ordinary people with extraordinary problems from her farmhouse in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The recipient of a fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, she draws on a 23-year rural divorce practice for her material, energized by an overactive imagination and an enthusiasm for the music of words. Her first prize stories have appeared in Antietam Review, New Millenium, The Hook, and other literary journals. Steve Boykewich, Editor of Meridian, writes: “[Honenberger’s fiction] is a lesson in how the quietest fiction is often the most powerful.” Honenberger teaches creative writing at seminars and conferences to students of all ages. When her essay, "Gathering Rosebuds: A Working Woman’s Manifesto," caught Oprah’s attention, Honenberger appeared on one of the book club segments. A frequent judge of fiction contests and a Smith College graduate, she serves on the Board of the Virginia Writers Club and is a past President of the Charlottesville Chapter. Sally is prepared to speak on various aspects of writing fiction--the basics of writing a novel, short fiction that sings, short story beginnings and endings, dynamic dialogue, editing, and fiction contests as a shortcut to publication. Sally can be reached at P. O. Box 910, Redlands, Orange, Virginia 22960; (540) 672-1081; or via email.
