Wayra Churi-Hijo del Viento-Son of the Wind: Wayra Churi (which translated from the Quechua means Son of the Wind in English and Hijo del Viento in Spanish) was recently published by the Ecuadorian publisher Abya-Yala. Written in three languages, it contains a play - The Guardian - set in both the present day and the time of the Inca. Additionally, it includes two short stories - The Gift and The Swallows and the Bats: Ana's Story - which explore a complex web of social and racial relations in the post-colonial hacienda system of Bolivia. Also included are various poems, which render homage to the indigenous people of the Andes and North America. The short stories and most of the poems are based in part on the author's memories of growing up in a neo-feudal Andean society.
