Hampton Roads

We meet every Tuesday from 10 to noon at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Ctr. We go in order, first to come/first to read.

Our meeting is structured like an "open mic" event. We begin with announcements of writing contests and other upcoming events. Then we have a short time of instruction on some aspect of the writing craft. Then we go in ten-minute blocks of time, letting each reader present about 5 pages of writing (poetry is usually not a problem and with prose, if you double-space with 12 font Courier or Times New Roman or something comparable, it works out). One of the advantages of our location that we can and do project your writing onto a screen for everyone to read it as you do. Most writers bring two copies--one to read and the other to project.

We have writers of fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, poetry, and scripts. Our writers are an eclectic bunch who are eager to view new writing and offer reactions and suggestions for improvement. We tend to average about 16 writers attending each session.

Here's a link to a map and directions to the site.

We meet in Room 147.

There is free parking in lot "3" to the far right of you as you face the fountain and the front of the building as you approach. There will be a sign posted at the entrance to the lot that says "Special Events."

We look forward to seeing you and experience your writing.
