Riverside Writers rang in the new year , beginning in January with Jeff Schwaner's well-attended session o n the "Fascination of Chinese Poetry." February featured our own Mary Coffman-Burke speaking on "Writing for Magazines." We enjoyed a lively open reading at the March meeting and devoted April to the 12th Annual Larry Turner Celebration of poetry. The main speaker was Stan Galloway, founder and organizer of the Bridgewater International Poetry Festival. and other sessions included a poetry slam and a workshop on "Your Most Memorable Day Out in Nature." We were happy to have a number of visitors from across the state, along with several new members attracted by the event. May's program focused on science fiction, with Jim and John Gaines discussing "Creating Creatures for Life Sentence." We look forward in June to Derek Kannemeyer's insights on fostering poetic creation. The rest of our 2016 schedule is posted on the Riverside Writers website. Join us at a meeting to find out about our plans for the 7th Riverside anthology.
The chapter continues to hold weekly critique sessions Monday nights (7PM) at the Spotsylvania Mall Books-a-Million and monthly poetry salons at various venues announced on the website. Visit us also on Facebook.
